Richie and Rich Saunders

Episode #428

Hard work. Tears. Faith. Discipline. The Creed.

From 5 a.m. training sessions at age 8 to earning Big 12 Most Improved Player of the Year, Richie Saunders’ journey is a masterclass in belief, perseverance, and purpose.

But he didn’t do it alone.

His father, Rich Saunders—former college basketball player and mentor—helped him visualize his future and reminded him: “If you’re willing to put in the work, it will be one of the hardest things you ever do… but you may have a shot at D1.”

Richie didn’t just train—he made a decision every day: Is this what I want?

There were tears. Moments of doubt. Times he wanted to quit.

But he clung to The Creed—his internal value system that defined who he was and how he was going to show up in life.

He stayed grounded through daily connection with God, relentless work ethic, and a heart for service—building courts in Mali, mentoring others, and living with purpose.
